The Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) was founded at the White House in 1955 by President Eisenhower as a bridge between American business and world governments. For 70 years, BCIU has served as the premier platform for high-stakes commercial diplomacy—convening Fortune 500 executives with sitting heads of state, defense ministers, and sovereign wealth fund chairs across 150+ global engagements annually.
Its 150 member companies include Apple, Google, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Meta, Goldman Sachs, KKR, and Blackstone. Past Eisenhower Award honorees include Kenneth Griffin, Marc Benioff, Henry Kravis, Ratan Tata, Carlos Slim, Mukesh Ambani, Ruth Porat, and Jane Fraser. The network spans NATO, the UN, the World Bank, the IMF, and dozens of sovereign governments worldwide.

BCIU Ventures & Early-Stage AI
I advise BCIU on their early-stage AI/ML work, helping them expand a very select group of startups globally—giving founders the same Fortune 100–level resources, staffed diplomatic engagement, and head-of-state access that have historically been reserved for the world’s largest corporations. Through BCIU Ventures, startups get expedited go-to-market support, strategic partnerships with multinational members, and direct access to BCIU's global network.
This includes GCC delegations with in-country missions to Saudi Arabia and the UAE, NATO headquarters roundtables in Brussels, Chiefs of Mission receptions with U.S. Ambassadors, introductions to sovereign wealth funds and institutional investors, and head-of-state access during UNGA week.

John J. Villa is an early-stage AI/ML operator, strategic advisor, writer, and investor with a global practice at the forefront of artificial intelligence and machine learning. He is CEO of Meridian Zero, where he structures and scales transformative technology companies across North America, Europe, and the GCC.
Mr. Villa entered the field through venture capital in New York, specializing in artificial intelligence, enterprise software, and machine learning infrastructure. This gave him an early vantage point on the technologies reshaping industries and the capital structures that enable their growth. He previously served as Managing Director of Predictive Analytics at Column, overseeing product strategy and go-to-market execution.
Frequently in San Francisco and deeply embedded in the city's AI ecosystem, he is known for being able to get to anyone and into any room—the first call for startups looking to run an M&A process and is particularly specialized in AI/ML and complex equity structures—frequently asked to advise other advisors on intricate equity matters. He has represented multiple early-stage startups with former OpenAI, Google Brain, Meta, and NVIDIA researchers making up senior leadership in their M&A processes. Known for both his technical depth and discretion, he is recognized for his deep understanding of AI/ML infrastructure—from transformer architectures to model merging, distillation, and quantization—and his ability to structure complex, multi-national partnerships involving compute, data, and regulatory frameworks. He is called on by the U.S. government to help them interface with Silicon Valley.
A core participant at the United Nations General Assembly, he works alongside heads of state and senior leaders from around the world on early-stage AI/ML matters. He has led delegations of American AI CEOs across the GCC and is widely regarded as a bridge between technology, capital, and governance—uniquely positioned to advise nations, companies, and investors on the opportunities and challenges posed by emerging AI systems.
Duke University — earned distinction with the top political science honors thesis of his graduating class, focused on the Israel–Palestine conflict, applying geospatial modeling and simulations to the study of territorial dynamics.
Mr. Villa has traveled roughly 50% of the last ten years, having driven across the United States four times in the last fourteen months alone and solo traveled extensively across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, the GCC, and Central America. He backs non-profits working to keep the Potomac River clean and donates to lobbying efforts supporting bike lanes and streeteries in Washington, D.C. He runs a philanthropic initiative with a deep passion for making America a place where anyone from any country can create a life for themselves. His grandfather was a Mexican immigrant who built a life in America, expanding his definition of family to include nearly everyone open to him. Villa carries that mission forward—holding the door open for those around him.
